The Greenfinch along with its twittering wheezing melody, as well as the flash of yellow and green while it flies make this finch a really colourful character. Greenfinch populations diminished throughout the later part of the nineteen seventies and also early nineteen eighties, but increased significantly through the entire nineteen nineties. A recent decline in numbers may very well be associated with an outbreak of trichomonosis, a parasite-induced ailment   which usually inhibits the birds from feeding properly.
Greenfinches are quite wide-spread in the British country side and

bird tables and bird feeders. These striking, as well as sociable tiny finches have got a short conical and powerful bill for cracking open large plant seeds.
In springtime, to show off the yellow-coloured feathers among the otherwise olive-green colouring, the males execute a fantastic dancing display flight, looking a lot more like butterflies than birds.
Greenfinches have got a number of different calls, uttered both from a perch and in flight. The song normally consists of a variety of pleasing tremolos interspersed with a few somewhat less-melodic tones.
