The Siskin

The Siskin is a tiny finch, approximately the size of a Blue Tit, along with the same agility. It has a distinctly forked tail and a very long, slim beak. The male possesses a streaky yellow-green body as well as a black crown and chest together with vivid yellow bars on their wings and tail.
It was once an extremely rare bird in Britain apart from in the coniferous forested acres of Wales and also Scotland but they are these days much more numerous throughout the whole of the British Isles and becoming even more so.

feed on. Far better suited to clinging to branch tips rather than hopping over the ground, these brown-streaked acrobats flash yellow wing markings as they flutter when feeding or when they burst into flight. Flocks are gregarious, and you will probably hear their insistent wheezy twitters before you see them.
Siskins are highly agile while feeding and also skilled at using their feet to bring dangling food into reach. They will routinely gather alder catkins to pick out the seeds. These habits have in past times made them very popular as cage-birds.
