Raised Wooden Garden Planters

Strawberries in Raised Planters

Strawberries are probably the simplest fruits for raised planter gardeners to grow, and one of the most productive, too. There are many varieties. June-bearing types bear one crop of high-quality berries each year in late spring or early summer, while strawberry plants that fruit continually peak in summer, and continue to produce into autumn; though they bear for a longer period than June-bearing sorts, they tend to be less vigorous. Within these two types, there are other varieties adapted to suit most situations. The best strawberries you'll ever taste will be those that you grow yourself. Fully ripened strawberries have a rich, aromatic flavour unrivalled by their supermarket equivalents. Savouring the melt-in-the-mouth succulence  of your own freshly harvested strawberries is a good reason to grow your

With this raised planter you don't need a large garden. Even if you only have a small patio you'll find room for this cedar  raised planter. Raised container gardens are perfect for people with limited space, or who have a hard time bending over and kneeling on the ground for traditional gardening.
Damage to plants from rabbits need no longer be a problem and you can keep your salad or herb garden close to hand, next to your door, no need for gardening boots to get that herb or vegetable that has just slipped your mind. The planting depth in these raised planters is 30cm, enough for deep rooted vegetables.
The container garden planter is made from western red cedar, which is naturally insect and weather resistant . The base is made of cedar slats that permit excess water to pass through, though you will need to put a sheet of waterproof material in the bottom to stop your planting medium leaching out from between the slats.
This wooden planter is very durable being crafted from cedar which contains natural oils that repel insects.

own, and as the first fruits develop in spring, they are a nourishing asset to any home.Strawberries are planted in early spring, and where winters are mild, you may also plant them  in autumn. With strawberry plants  which are sold bare-root, care must be taken to ensure the roots don't dry out. Just before you set plants out trim the plants roots to fifteen centimetres in length. This will make planting easier. After that, plant the strawberries thirty to forty five centimetres apart in rows. After bearing fruit, many types of strawberries produce numerous runners with baby plants at the tips. These runners often root themselves close by, yet remain attached to the mother plant. So to get large plants with

smaller yields of big berries, pinch off all of the runners. For a heavier yield of smaller sized fruits, permit a few of the runners to grow and fruit; space the runners twenty centimetres apart in a ring round the mother plant, cutting off the rest so the bed doesn't become over crowded. Like most hardy perennials, strawberries die back in winter and start growing vigorously as the soil warms in spring. Fatigued from producing fruit and offspring, strawberries typically have a second rest period through summer's second half. When kept weeded, and lightly watered, most parent plants - and their young - perk up and grow again for a while in the Autumn, and even though it may look like little is occurring with strawberries from September the plants are busy producing the latent buds that will grow into next spring's flowers.
